Dorothy Katherine Blasing, 98, of Prairie City, Oregon, passed away peacefully July 5th, 2017 at Blue Mountain Care Center in Prairie City, Oregon.\n\nDorothy was born December 19th, 1918 at Manhattan, Kansas, to Julius and Melia Hoerman. She attended Manhattan Schools and graduated from Manhattan High School. Dorothy married John "Mel" Blasing February 13th, 1937 in Manhattan and then headed west living in Unity, Bates and Prairie City OR.\n\nDorothy was involved in many church and community activities. She was a member and president of her Home Extension group, played piano and was active in Bible school at her church. Dorothy was also a member of the Community Choir for several years, was involved in many school activities such as PTA, and followed her son, Larry, to many of his football and basketball games. In her younger years she spent several summers up in the Dixie Mountain fire lookout tower. Dorothy was on the Prairie City Cemetery board for many years. She was also in charge of the church service at the Blue Mountain Care Center on Sunday afternoons for many years and was an avid visitor at the center.\n\nShe liked horseback riding, sewing crafts and anything outdoors, especially herding cattle to and from summer pastures.\n\nDorothy is survived by her grandson Loy Blasing of Missoula, MT, sister Helen Mann of Antioch, CA, daughter-in-law Yvonne Blasing of Rapid City, SD and many nieces and nephews.\n\nShe was preceded in death by husband John "Mel" Blasing, son Larry Blasing, her parents, three brothers and one sister.
