Darrel "Goose" Pierce, 82, of Prairie City died Sunday October 11th at the Blue Mountain Care Center. A celebration a life will be held Saturday October 24th at the Elks Lodge # 1824 at 11:00 AM.
Darrel was born on March 3, 1933 to Frank Pierce and Christina Sorenson in Prairie City, Oregon. He attended and graduated from Prairie City High School; he also played on the basketball the year they won the state championship in 1951. He spent his years, like many in Grant County, working in the local mills. He worked various positions, but mainly an edgerman for Hudspeth, Ellingson Lumber, and Prairie Wood Products; he would boast that D.R. Johnson told him he was the best edgerman he ever had. He then retired in 1995.
He enjoyed collecting things, especially antiques; things like bottles and small tokens. He attended games for all sports at the Prairie City School as long as he was able, and took care of his mother and her home all his life. He was a member of the Elk's Lodge #1824 for 53 years.
He is survived by his nephew Duane Stanbro of Colton, Oregon, Great-Nephew Grant Stanbro of Colton, Oregon, four great-nieces Lisa Rynearson of Prairie City, Oregon, Lori Moore of Eltopia, Washington, Kris Higgins of Newberg, Oregon and Traci Sutherland of Newberg, Oregon.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters; Ione Stanbro and Leah McKee Dunn.
